Agenda
  1. 9:00 AM NZDT

    Hands-on Gen AI

    in-person

    Synopsis:

This event is a hands-on workshop that enables participants to build generative AI prototype apps (chatbots, image gen, summarisation, etc.) on AWS. The workshop is designed for people with no experience with AI, but who are comfortable programming and using the command-line.

Workshop participants build simple generative AI apps while learning key concepts. The labs use AWS Bedrock and include prompt engineering, security and guardrails, chatbots, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), image generation & editing, and multimodal capabilities.

Resources: It is a hands-on workshop so you must bring your own laptop to the workshop and you can run this workshop through an AWS-managed event or from your own account.

    Trainers

Everett Toews Specialist Director at Deloitte NZ

Shivonne Londt Senior Solution Architect at AWS

Mark Goatley Senior Specialist Lead AWS at Deloitte NZ

Hannah Prior AI Developer at Deloitte

  2. 9:00 AM NZDT

    Simplifying Data Management in K8s

    in-person

Portworx: Simplifying Data Management in Kubernetes. Making Kubernetes the default destination for stateful workloads

Synopsis: Join Portworx and partner Systemethix and experience hands-on labs that show compelling features that Portworx Enterprise can bring to your Kubernetes environment! You’ll get access to a Kubernetes cluster with Portworx already installed and be guided by a live instructor where you can experience:

    • Streamlined self-service volume provisioning: effortless volume provisioning and ensure high availability for modern Kubernetes applications

    • Overcome CSI limitations: Understand how traditional external storage arrays with the CSI Provisioner have trouble keeping up with the CRUD churn encountered with Kubernetes and why Cloud Native Storage eliminates this concern.

    • Mitigating “Noisy Neighbor” Scenarios: Learn effective strategies to prevent storage-related “noisy neighbor” scenarios in Kubernetes by setting limits on IOPS and bandwidth for individual persistent disks, ensuring optimal performance for all applications.

    • Automated Capacity Management: Simple and efficient automated capacity management so your pods don’t run out of disk space and crash your applications.

Requirements for the lab - Laptop and a positive attitude! :)

Speakers: Greg Shultz Kubernetes Data Management | Platform Engineering

Marcus (Koenig) König Kubernetes Data Management | Platform Engineering

  3. 1:00 PM NZDT

    Istio 0 to 60

    in-person

    Synopsis:

This workshop will get you up to speed on Istio via a hands-on tour.I will cover what the Istio service mesh is, and then you will work through installing Istio into a Kubernetes cluster and then deploy and configure a microservice application. After completing this workshop, you’ll be able to:

Understand the architecture and components of Istio Deploy Istio on a Kubernetes cluster Expose an application using an Istio gateway Use traffic routing for blue-green and canary deployments Use Grafana, Zipkin, and Kiali for service observability Understand the basics of security in Istio and control access to your workloads If you want to get a better understanding of Istio, this workshop might be right for you!

Requirements for the lab: Basic understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux command line. Laptop with curl, docker, kubectl and istioctl installed.
