Being able to deploy without service interruption is one of the core selling points of Kubernetes. And by making continuous deployment uneventful, it also builds developer confidence in continuous delivery and so indirectly underpins part of devops.

However, getting zero-downtime on Kubernetes is not as easy as it sounds, particularly for service-to-service communication, such as REST APIs. This talk is a forensic deep-dive into the crucial zero-downtime concept of graceful shutdown, with particular emphasis on the long-running connections common with REST APIs and HTTP/2.
